I waited so many years to watch the movie the Notebook, a lot of folks put it in their top five romantic movies.

Book lovers and movie lovers alike have been crying over Nicholas Sparks' The Notebook for years but now it's time for theatergoers to reach for their hankies and Kleenex.

Ingrid Michaelson has been tapped to write the music and lyrics for a stage musical based on The Notebook.

In a statement, she says,

When I was approached about working on The Notebook, I had to excuse myself and go to the bathroom and cry and come back into the meeting. I have loved the movie and the story for so many years now that the idea of turning it into a musical overwhelmed me.

The story sings to me so perfectly. I actually started writing that very night of the first meeting, before I even had the job! she gushes.I cannot wait for the world to hear these characters come to life in a musical way.

The musical's book is being written by Bekah Brunstetter, a TV writer, screenwriter and playwright who is currently a supervising producer on NBC's This Is Us.

The project is being created in cooperation with Nicholas Sparks.

No word on a target date for the show's arrival.
