The Berkshire Eagle  reports more than a dozen students from high schools around Berkshire County will convene Thursday night for a discussion about the youth of today in The Berkshire Eagle Conversations series.

This evening's event, which begins at 6:30 in the auditorium of Taconic High School, is free and open to the public.

This generation of young people is just as engaged as any, but it might be among our most misunderstood. The conversation is intended to shed light on their lives and their ambitions, passions and fears.

This generation is the first to grow up surrounded by smartphones and totally immersed in social media. And this group of young people often feels misunderstood by the generations above them.

Tonight's Eagle Conversations program is an opportunity to bridge the gap and to bring greater understanding about this generation of future citizens and leaders.

Parents, community members, educators, business leaders and peers are invited to attend and participate in the question-and-answer session.

The Berkshire Eagle Conversations series presents civil, intelligent and respectful conversation on a variety of timely issues that matter in the Berkshires.

Taconic is located at 96 Valentine Road in Pittsfield.
