Bird E-Scooters Are Coming Back to Pittsfield For a 2nd Year
As the temperatures are warming up this week, you will likely see more and more people out and about throughout the Berkshires and definitely in and around town in Pittsfield. However, those people may be using a mode of transportation that we saw plenty of last year. The Bird e-scooters are making a return to Pittsfield.
After a successful pilot program was launched in 2022 for the Bird e-scooters, the City of Pittsfield has announced that they will be making a return in 2023. Last year, there were more than 25,000 rides on e-scooters throughout the area.
According to ABC News10, Pittsfield Mayor Linda Tyer expressed her excitement of bringing back the Bird e-scooters:
After a successful first launch of e-scooters in Pittsfield, I am excited to welcome back Bird for 2023...Pittsfield continues to lead the way as a municipality in providing alternative forms of transportation to residents and visitors.
Discounts for 50 percent off on rides will be made available for low-income riders, senior citizens, and veterans. Select nonprofits and organizations are also eligible for discounts through the Community Pricing Program. For those wanting to take advantage of the aforementioned discount, you can do so by downloading the Bird app. Once you have created an account, you can email your proof of eligibility to access@bird.co.
The Bird e-scooters are readily available as of today (Monday, April 10th). Designated bike lanes are to be utilized by anyone using the e-scooters as sidewalks are not be used for riding. There is also only one rider per scooter allowed. Helmets are encouraged to be used for those riding the e-scooters, as is adequate parking of the e-scooter.
