Are Any Berkshire County Dollar Tree Stores Part of the Planned Store Closures?
Dollar Tree is a store I'll shop at from time to time. While some people may gripe that some items cost more than a dollar, I still opt to go to Dollar Tree for a few items, specifically wrapping paper, greeting cards, coloring books, balloons, calendars, cleaning supplies, and a few other items.
I tend to look at Dollar Tree as adventure shopping. Sometimes I'll see items I may not have seen during a prior visit. And sometimes, depending on which store I visit, I'll see different items. Case in point: when my daughter was potty training, my wife and I had a sticker chart for her as a job well done. There were some stickers in the Great Barrington Dollar Tree that I couldn't get at the Pittsfield store and vice versa.
You may have heard in the news lately that Dollar Tree plans on closing 75 stores by the end of the year. I suppose it's just the nature of the business. When some locations aren't performing well, you unload them.
While it may be frustrating that so many stores are set to be closed, it's also encouraging to know that during the same period, Dollar Tree plans to open 400 new stores. In fact, according to The U.S. Sun, Dollar Tree has actually been expanding this fiscal year. In the first quarter of this year, Dollar Tree opened 113 stores and converted or added about 630 stores to its new multi-price format.
The big question, of course, is which Dollar Tree stores will be affected by the upcoming closures. Unfortunately, an official list hasn't been released yet. So as of this writing, the three Dollar Tree stores in Berkshire County, including Pittsfield, North Adams, and Great Barrington, are safe. If that changes and there's an update, we'll be sure to pass the word along. In the meantime, happy shopping.
