A North Adams man arrested by city police officers on Thursday morning was charged with assault with intent to murder his wife and other violent crimes.

Michael A. Cook Sr., 42, of Chase Avenue, was arraigned in Northern Berkshire County District Court on Thursday afternoon and charged with three felonies: assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and assault and battery on a family or household member.

The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office requested that Cook be held without the right to bail and that a dangerousness hearing be held. Judge Jennifer Tyne ordered Cook held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for July 17 in Northern Berkshire County District Court.

Cook’s wife was being treated for life-threatening injuries at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
