With the major storm that just hit the Berkshires the cleanup isn’t done until that fire hydrant is cleared of snow.

It varies from town to town as to who is ultimately responsible for clearing hydrants.  It could be the town, the water department, fire department, or you.

Immediately following a storm like we experienced this week, it could take a city department a number of days or longer to get to the hydrant in your neighborhood.

Fire is unpredictable and the chance of fire increases in the winter months.

It is recommended that you take ten minutes and clear that hydrant near your home or business in a 3-foot diameter.

That accessible hydrant could save a life.
