Hope this takes your mind off the snow for a bit.

On Sunday night, "The Shape of Water" became the first sci-fi movie to win Best Picture at the Oscars in its 90-year history. And now, there's a list of 12 sci-fi movies that should have done it sooner.

Here's the list, although it's debatable as to whether some of these movies are primarily "sci-fi" movies.

1. "King Kong", 1933. It did not receive any Oscar nominations. The Best Picture winner that year was "Cavalcade".

2. "The Wizard of Oz", 1939. It was nominated for Best Picture, but lost to a movie called "Gone with the Wind". Also, it's more of a musical fantasy than sci-fi.

3.This was one of the best,  "2001: A Space Odyssey", 1968. It was not nominated for Best Picture. "Oliver!" won that year.

6.The very first movie, "Star Wars", 1977. It was nominated for Best Picture, but the award went to "Annie Hall".

7. One of my Favorites! who could forget the mash potato scene?to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", 1977. It came out the same year as "Star Wars" and "Annie Hall", but it didn't even get a Best Picture nomination.
