4 Alarm Fire At The Former CTC Film Developing Business
This past Wednesday, May 19, at 3:05, Bennington Police, Bennington Fire and Bennington Rescue were dispatched to a report of a structure fire located at 254 Benmont Avenue Bennington, Vermont.
This is the location of the former CTC Film Developing business and is currently unoccupied. Emergency personnel arrived on the scene and confirmed the building was a fully involved structure fire.
This structure was quickly upgraded to a four-alarm fire, requesting mutual aid from; Bennington Rural Fire Department, North Bennington Fire Department, North Hoosick Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Fire Department, and Pownal Fire Department. North Pownal Fire Department, Pownal Valley Fire Department, and Shaftsbury Fire Department were on standby to assist with other fire calls.
Benmont Avenue was closed to vehicular traffic while fire personnel battled the fire. Benmont Avenue remained closed for several hours. The fire caused heavy smoke that engulfed residences and businesses located south of the structure fire. Residents were safely evacuated from the area a block south of the fire, due to the close proximity to the structure fire and the heavy smoke. Residents were allowed to return to their homes by 19:00hrs.
Two Bennington Fire Department Firefighters were transported to Southwest Vermont Medical Center by Bennington Rescue for heat exhaustion. Both Firefighters were still be treated at the time of the press release.
Green Mountain Power Company and Bennington Town Code Enforcement responded to the scene to assist.
Bennington Police and Bennington Fire will remain on scene throughout the night until tomorrow morning when State of Vermont Fire Investigators arrive.
