Charles Weatherwax, 25, remains held without bail after allegedly beating his girlfriend Sunday and threatening to shoot her with his black-powder hunting rifle.

Adams's day shift officers responded to a residential address on Commercial Street for what was called in as a domestic assault and battery in progress.

Upon arrival, responding officers observed a female party that was able to escape from the home and she advised officers that there was a male party inside the home with their children. She stated that he was armed with a firearm and threatened to shoot responding officers.

Officers led the female party to safety and immediately called for back-up from the Massachusetts State Police, North Adams Police Department and the Berkshire County Special Response Team.

While additional resources were en route to the scene, contact was made with the male party via telephone who had agreed to surrender. The male party exited the home and was arrested without incident. The firearm was located and secured, and the children were located and were also deemed to be safe.

The Charles Weatherwax,was transported to the Adams Police Department and was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail and will await arraignment at Northern Berkshire District Court to face multiple charges from this incident.

On Monday Charles Weatherwax,  was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing set for Thursday.
