The Pittsfield Fire Department is investigating a major structure fire at the White Terrace Apartment building at 592 North Street. The fire was called in shortly before midnight.  

Several engines, a ladder truck, and a command vehicle were dispatched for a reported possible structure fire on North Street. According to the media report sent to the Berkshire News Network by Deputy Chief Neil Myers, upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke pushing out of every 4th-floor window and eves and heavy fire on the first floor.  

Fire crews attacked the fire from all sides and a mutual aid Lenox truck was called in as well. An extensive firefight ensued for several hours to eventually bring the fire under control. The Dalton Fire Department provided mutual aid city coverage, Hinsdale Rehab and County ALS remained on scene for the duration.

Deputy Chief Myers reports that there were no civilian injuries as a result of the fire, there were however two firefighters transported to Berkshire Medical Center, which was right across the street, for smoke inhalation. Both firefighters were treated and then released. One firefighter received a laceration to a hand from falling glass, and another firefighter sustained an injury to their elbow during ventilation operations.  

The blaze caused major fire, heat, and smoke damage throughout the first and 4th floors of the apartment building, as well as smoke damage throughout the second third floor. The estimated cost of the damage was not reported.

The cause of the fire at this time is undetermined and is under investigation. The same apartment building was also the scene of a fire in 2017.
