The Berkshire Regional Transit Authority Paratransit drivers are officially on strike.

The latest offer presented to a Federal mediator on Friday for a new contract for the paratransit drivers was rejected by the paratransit union membership yesterday. The vote is resulting in a work stoppage beginning this morning.

This means that the BRTA paratransit service will not operate today. The work stoppage will continue throughout the duration of the strike, however long it lasts.

BRTA officials say that they have sub-contracted with other chair-car vendors to perform essential paratransit trips. The BRTA will also operate limited fixed route service during the strike.

Route 1 will operate 6:30,7:30,8:30 and 9:30 Morning runs and 2:30,3:30,4:30 and 5:30 evening runs.

Route 2 will operate 6:30 and 8:30 Morning runs and 3:30 and 5:30 evening runs.

Route 11 will operate 7:35,8:25,9:35 and 10:35 morning runs and 1:50, 2:50,3:50 and 4:50 evening runs. Additional information is listed to the BRTA's website.
