There were a lot of unanswered questions in relation to Wednesday afternoon's shooting on Cromwell Avenue in Pittsfield. While the investigation is at the preliminary stages, it seems like one question may have an answer.

According to the Berkshire County District Attorney's office, early evidence is pointing towards the incident being self-inflicted.

"At 3:09 Wednesday afternoon, the Pittsfield Police Department received a call reporting that an individual had sustained a gunshot wound at the home of an off-duty Pittsfield Police Officer on Cromwell Avenue," states the Berkshire County DA's office in a release.

"Evidence collected and preliminary interviews conducted reveal that the incident is being considered a case of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound; however the investigation is still in its early stages.  The investigation remains active and no further details can be released at this time."

The individual, who's name has not been publicly released, is listed in critical, but stable condition following the shooting and was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center. Prior to the transfer, the individual had emergency surgery at Berkshire Medical Center.
