Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington obtained indictments against Tyler Sumner, 25, of North Adams, from a Berkshire Superior Court grand jury on Friday.

The charges stem from the August 25, 2019 shooting death of Stephani Olivieri, 32, of Becket and Yonkers, on Columbus Avenue in Pittsfield.

District Attorney Harrington obtained indictments for murder, armed assault with intent to murder, and a number of firearm-related offenses.

The District Attorney, with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Heather Valentine and Lead Detective Michael Murphy from the Pittsfield Police Department, spent several days over December and January presenting the matter to the grand jury.

Mr. Sumner is currently held without the right to bail and will be arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court on January 29, 2020 at 2 p.m.

Ms. Olivieri was struck by gunfire as she sat in her parked car on Columbus Avenue at approximately 3:22 a.m. Ms. Olivieri was transported to Berkshire Medical Center where she later passed away due to her injuries. Investigators do not believe that Ms. Olivieri was the intended target of the shooting.

Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington said.

My condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Olivieri who have suffered a terrible loss due to senseless violence. We would not have obtained these indictments today without the determined investigation by the Pittsfield Police Department. I also thank the State Police Detective Unit assigned to my office and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab whose work was critical. I am very grateful to the grand jury for their thoughtful consideration of the evidence,  We appreciate the community for providing information that led to these indictments.

The investigation remains ongoing and anybody with information should contact the Pittsfield Police Department Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705.
