Firefighters Battle Pittsfield Fire On Thursday That Killed A Dog

Our hardworking crew of the Pittsfield Fire Department had to put out a blaze on Thursday afternoon. Thankfully, no civilians or firefighters were injured because of the fire. Sadly, one dog did perish.

A media statement from the Pittsfield Fire Department reports on July 29th at 12:35 pm they responded to 16 South Atlantic Avenue for a reported structure fire. Pittsfield Police were at a neighboring house when they were notified of the fire.

On arrival firefighters found #16 to be a 2-1/2 story, wood-framed building. Heavy fire conditions were found in the first-floor kitchen area with extensions into adjoining rooms.

Once the fire had been extinguished it was determined that due to heavy fire and smoke damage on the first floor and smoke damage throughout the rest of the building, there was an estimate of up to $50,000 in damage.

Again, no civilians or firefighters were injured however a family dog was killed in the blaze. Currently, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army are assisting the family.
