An injured hiker stranded on the Williamstown side of Mount Greylock was rescued late Sunday night.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that teams of emergency workers brought down the unidentified person seven hours after they responded to a 911 call reporting a hiker with a broken ankle.

Help came from all over North County, North Adams, Clarksburg, and Pownal, Vt., fire departments arrived on the scene, two more teams were sent in to assist Williamstown.

The rescue team met up with employees of the state Department of Conservation and Recreation to begin the rescue operation.

Everyone was safely down the mountain and out of the woods by 10pm. The hiker was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment. The extent of the hiker’s injuries was not known.
