Bennington Man Will Be Charged With Attempted Murder After Crash On Saturday
Sometimes you never know how a weekend may unfold. Luckily, this time it didn't turn fatal.
A man from Bennington involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Saturday is expected to be taken into custody once he is discharged from the hospital, authorities have announced. The Bennington Police Department states that 49-year-old Griford Saupin is charged with several crimes, including attempted murder.
How The Events Unfolded
Police reported that his arrest was caused by a multi-vehicle accident close to Park and Spring Streets, which occurred after the driver was reportedly shot.
An investigation revealed that a Subaru carrying four people was heading north on Park Street when it collided with three parked vehicles, causing one to flip onto its roof. As officers helped the occupants, they found that the driver had a gunshot wound. Authorities later concluded that a fight took place inside the vehicle prior to Saupin allegedly firing at the driver.

Outcome Of The Driver
Saupin, the driver, along with another passenger, was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and subsequently transferred to Albany Medical Center, sustaining injuries ranging from critical to minor. According to police, the fourth individual managed to escape on foot prior to their arrival, and authorities are still attempting to locate and speak with this person.
The police department states that Saupin will be detained by the Albany Police and will be transferred back to Bennington after his release from the hospital to face the listed charges.
