Adams Has Been Named ‘The Most Charming’ East Coast Town To Retire
Growing up in Adams, I've seen quite a few changes throughout the years. Everything from businesses coming and going to people that I went to school with moving out of the area. But what hasn't changed is the land that surrounds the town. So it's no surprise many will end up circling back into town to retire.

Brief Adams History
This area is rich in history and culture. Adams, founded by Quakers in the 1700s, is the birthplace of the trailblazing suffragist Susan B. Anthony. The town was named after Samuel Adams, a key figure in the American Revolution and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
A statue of President William McKinley from 1903, who visited Adams several times to support the cotton industry, stands at the northern end of Park Street. On the southern side, a statue of Susan B. Anthony overlooks Town Common, a well-maintained park. Near downtown, the Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum showcases her belongings, including furniture and writings.

Why Adams Is the Best Town for Retirees
Adams has a population of just over 8,000 residents, with about 25% aged 65 or older. As reported by islands.com, active retirees will find numerous activities to stay engaged.
The town's stunning natural surroundings and prime location in the Hoosac River Valley, just a 15-minute drive from Vermont and New York, make it ideal for outdoor-loving retirees seeking adventure close to home and beyond. In addition to outdoor pursuits, Adams' downtown features museums, shops, and cultural events that add to its lively atmosphere.
