A North Adams man who was ordered held without bail on assault charges Monday was recaptured after mistakenly being allowed to walk out of the courthouse, police said,
In a news release, Bennington police said, Richard P. Ellis was taken into custody Monday evening.
Ellis, 26, was arrested Friday after being accused of threatening a woman and himself during an incident involving a firearm, according to court documents.
Ellis, whose address in court records is in North Adams, Massachusetts, denied two felony charges, included aggravated stalking with a deadly weapon and was ordered held without bail at his afternoon arraignment.

The Bennington Banner Reports that Bennington police said in a news release:
"Following the arraignment, Ellis was mistakenly allowed to walk out of court and was not held as ordered," "Ellis was aware he was being held without bail."
Bennington police Cpl. Christopher Lauzon wrote in a court affidavit.
On Friday morning, officers had been called to a Coleville Road residence for a report of a man threatening to shoot a woman and himself police were told the man at one point:
"Held the gun to his head and then fired a series of shots." The woman had run into the woods."
Lauzon wrote that he located the man and identified as Ellis, who he wrote was placed in hand restraints without incident.
The woman told police that Ellis was throwing objects in the basement, including a wooden bar stool that was thrown in her direction and broke but did not strike her.
The woman told police she ran into the woods:
"Because she was fearful of what he could potentially do to her and her safety."
Police seized a 9 mm pistol with a 10-round magazine in Ellis' truck. Four 9 mm spent shell casings were located in the driveway.
Ellis plead not guilty to felony aggravated stalking with a deadly weapon and first degree aggravated assault with a weapon, and misdemeanor domestic assault, reckless endangerment and aggravated disorderly conduct.
Court records show Ellis has a criminal history in Massachusetts and Florida,
