The City of Pittsfield's seeming slow-moving Street Improvement Project continues all this week with more improvements to not only beautify but to make the city's roads more drivable as we prepare to move into the winter months.

The project schedule this week runs through Friday...

According to a press release from the city, which included this schedule, on-street parking will not be prohibited between the hours of 6 am and 6 pm each day. The schedule is subject to change based on weather conditions.

Dawes Avenue bridge work today too...

Repairs are also being conducted today to replace a leaking water gate on the west side of the Dawes Avenue bridge. In order to isolate the leak, crews are shutting six gates on Howard Street, one on Appleton Avenue, one on Deming Street, and one on the east side of the bridge. Water service will be unavailable on Dwight Street for much of the day, and there may also be the presence of discolored water in the surrounding vicinity.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
