Police Turn Out High Visibility Patrol Operations In Pittsfield

Over the last several weeks, the Pittsfield Police Department, in cooperation with public safety partners, conducted a series of high-visibility patrol operations in response to recent acts of violence within the City.

The operation started in mid-November and wrapped up this past Saturday. The operations were conducted by Pittsfield Police, members of the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Police.

According to Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn, the series of operations culminated on Saturday and focused on the City’s Morningside and Westside neighborhoods.

Saturday’s operation led to 14 Arrests. Officers also seized approximately 340 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $34,000 and numerous illicit pills. The four operations combined resulted in 32 arrests, 6 Criminal Summonses, 418 Traffic Stops, 14 Criminal Motor Vehicle Summonses, 253 Motor Vehicle Citations and 145 Verbal Warnings.

The dates of the operations were Friday, November 16, Tuesday, November 20, Wednesday, November 28, and Saturday, December 8, 2018.

The press release from Police Chief Officer Wynn reports that the first three operations were conducted by Pittsfield Police Uniformed Patrol and the Department’s Anti-Crime Unit, assisted by members of the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police. The series of operations culminated on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with a One Team-One Mission operation focused on the City’s Morningside and Westside neighborhoods.

During this operation, approximately 75 members of the Pittsfield Police Department, Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, Massachusetts State Police, District Court Probation Office, and the Commonwealth’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission worked cooperatively on a variety of enforcement and public safety strategies.

In addition to conducting high visibility traffic enforcement, operation participants attempted to serve numerous arrest warrants, sought out 10 individuals in violation of their Sex Offender Registration status, verified the addresses of numerous other registered sex offenders, conducted probation checks, and conducted inspections of licensed establishments that were the subject of recent capacity and over-serving complaints.
