PPD: Pittsfield Man ‘Accessed Loaded Revolver’ During Arrest on Warrant

The Pittsfield Police Department have confirmed the arrest of two Pittsfield residents -- both of which made things quite dangerous while it was going down.

According to a Thursday night release, two Pittsfield Police Officers and a Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department Deputy, working together as members of the Anti-Crime Unit, attempted to apprehend 21-year-old Brandon Griffin -- a suspect on a warrant related to a prior shooting incident that took place in Pittsfield on July 5.

The officers approached Griffin, along with a companion -- 19-year-old Tyra Alado -- at a local business. Things would get dangerous quickly.

"Griffin resisted attempts by the Officers and Deputy to take him into custody and a struggle ensued," says PPD officials. "Additionally, Alado made attempts to prevent Griffin from being taken into custody. During the struggle, Griffin accessed a loaded .38 caliber revolver handgun from his waistband. The Officers and Deputy were able to subdue Griffin and recover the firearm. Griffin continued to struggle with the Anti-Crime Unit members, assaulting all 3 before being removed from the scene.

"Thankfully, no injuries were sustained by anyone involved."

Griffin was arrested and charged with a Warrant, Possession of a Firearm without an FID Card, Assault & Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Vandalism of Property and Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card. In addition, Alado was arrested and charged with Resisting Arrest and Disorderly Conduct.

Both were arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday.
