The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced that the southern section of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail will reopen to the public this Saturday, June 27, which includes access to the Berkshire Mall Connector Road parking lots.

Starting this Monday, June 29, the northern section of the rail trail will be temporarily closed to the public in order to facilitate Phase II of the resurfacing project that is upgrading an 11-mile section of the trail.

The closure is expected to go through sometime in October of this year. There will be no public access to the northern section or travel allowed from Church Street in Cheshire north to the Adams Visitor's Center during the closure.

Scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted during an emergency situation.

Until further notice, the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail's visitor's center, picnic areas and restrooms continue to be closed.

Thanks for the update, MassDOT.
