A special prosecutor is seeking jail sentences for two men, including a Pittsfield Police officer, who were convicted Nov. 27th in an assault of a Dalton man and subsequent cover-up.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that officer Michael McHugh was found guilty of charges including assault in the July 4, 2016, case. Jason LaBelle, his neighbor, was acquitted of assault charges but was found guilty of lying to authorities about the incident.

In a sentencing memorandum filed this week and obtained by The Eagle, special prosecutor Steven Gagne argues that McHugh, who was off-duty the night of the assault, deserves two years in jail.
