I had a chance to speak with Police Chief Timothy Sorrell, Today, which by the way the countdown is on until he retires, as of today 103 days left.

He wanted the public to be aware of a few things going on and some safety measures you should follow because of car break-ins in Adams, also being hit hard has been South County, even a car being stolen in Stockbridge.

The Department is hoping you stay safe in all aspects including with covid, tips on locking your stuff down so it won't get stolen, and finding out information on a dog that Animal control is investigating.

Chief Sorrell also spoke about who might be replacing him, so far there are 21 applicants, sadly none from the Berkshires. If you are a Berkshire county law enforcement officer and have the qualifications to be chief. Here is a link with more information on the position.

A Message from Chief Timothy C. Sorrell,

Well, it's the last day of Winter (or so we're being told) lets hope warmer weather is around the corner. I haven't posted anything in a while, not much has changed.

Everyone is still healthy here at the Lanesborough Police Department. Things still appear to be good in Town. I hope everyone who is or was able to get vaccinated did get vaccinated if they wanted to.

I hear the frustrations about scheduling a vaccination appointment and then having to travel 2-3 hours for it, I wish I had the answers to that problem, you sometimes get the feeling that the Eastern part of the State has forgotten about us or how far away we actually are.

I just wanted to mention a few important things:
1. PLEASE make sure to lock up your vehicles and keep valuables out of sight or even better out of your vehicles when parked.
2. PLEASE lock the doors to your homes.
3. PLEASE call us if you see or hear anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, you are our eyes and ears!

I mention this because it appears as though motor vehicle thefts and breaking and enterings into motor vehicles are starting to increase, Lenox has been hit hard. Last year a crew from the Hartford CT., Springfield MA area was traveling up here in stolen cars to break into vehicles and/or steal vehicles when possible and it looks like it might be making another appearance. If you see or hear anything please contact us immediately, you are our eyes and ears!

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!
Chief Timothy C. Sorrell

Also, on another note, Animal Control is investigating an animal abuse incident and is asking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed the incident. It involved a small dog on Pontoosuc lake behind the Narragansett Park area overnight Wednesday 3-17-21.
Please contact ACO Costa at 443-4107 or by Messenger with any information.
