Joe Biden is just hours away from being sworn in as the 46 President of the United States at the Capital in Washington D.C. Under the heaviest security in inauguration day history, Pres-elect Biden insisted on not straying from tradition and will be sworn in on the balcony of the Capital where just weeks ago was filled with rioters and teargas.

The 20th amendment to the Constitution specifies that the term of each elected President of the United States begin on January 20th at noon. It would not have been out of the ordinary for the swearing in to be moved indoors to make it easier to stave off potential danger. The balcony has been used for 34 inauguration ceremonies. Other locations within the Capital have been the Senate Chamber, Hall of the House of Representatives among others. The White House has been used 6 times and there has been 7 instances where a President was sworn in outside of Washington.

The inauguration day ceremony will begin at 11:30 with the Invocation by Fr. Leo O’Donovan followed by the Pledge of Allegiance by Andrea Hall…the National Anthem sung by Lady Gaga…a poetry reading by Amanda Gorman…a musical performance by Jennifer Lopez…the Benediction by Rev. Dr. Silvester Beaman and at noon the swearing in of soon-to-be President Joe Biden by the Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Justice Sonia Sotomayor will swear in Kamala Harris as Vice President.

There are plenty of options to watch this historic event. All the major networks and cable outlets will carry the festivities. It will also be streamed on all the major digital platforms and social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. It will also be officially streamed at bidenInaugural.org/watch.

Major celebrities will show their support for #46 with a primetime TV special that is being called ‘Celebrating America” and will air on ABC, CBS, NBC, and MSNBC beginning at 8:30pm. The who’s-who will include Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, John Legend, Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, Demi Lovato and others. The event will feature performances from iconic locations around the country and will be hosted by Tom Hanks. It is expected President Biden and VP Harris will also be part of the event.
