Memorial Day Parades & Ceremonies Have Been Scaled Back In The Berkshires
Publicly remembering fallen local heroes this Memorial Day has been scaled back due to the corona-virus pandemic.
Memorial Day which used to be called Decoration Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering, honoring, and mourning the military personnel that had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Many volunteers place an American flag on each grave in national cemeteries.
The Berkshire Eagle reports that Pittsfield is among several Berkshire communities that have canceled their traditional parade and ceremony.
Several other municipalities have canceled Memorial Day weekend parades and ceremonies, including Adams, North Adams, Williamstown, Cheshire, Lenox, Lenox Dale, Stockbridge and Lanesborough.
