Adams has added Two New Police Officers to the force. Michael Rossi and Natasha Antona were sworn in last Wednesday.

They are the first officers not hired through the Civil Service application process.

Last year at a town meeting the selectmen voted to end the affiliation with Civil Service.  It’s taken awhile to make the hires since the state had to sign off on ending the Civil Service process.  According to iBerkshires.com, Police Chief Richard Tarsa initiated the process because Civil Service limited whom the department could hire, which left him with staffing gaps in the department.

Both Rossi and Antona have been special officers since last year, with limited activities like educational and training opportunities.

Rossi , who had worked as a part time officer in Southern Berkshire County, was promoted to a full-time officer.

Antona, started with the department as an intern from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and is currently pursuing a master's degree in criminal justice. She will serve as a reserve officer.
