Police in Bennington have identified a woman found dead in a river Sunday afternoon as Bridget Osgood, a 45-year-old Bennington resident.

The Bennington Banner reports that her body was discovered partially submerged in the Roaring Branch off Caroline Drive by a neighborhood resident walking his dog. Bennington Police said they are continuing to regard Osgood’s death as “suspicious in nature.” An autopsy was performed on Monday.

Bennington Police Chief Paul Doucette told WTEN-TV in Albany that investigators are trying to determine the cause of her significant head trauma and minor body injuries.

The department says that the cause and manner of Osgood’s death will be released once the toxicology results come back, but It didn’t provide details on why the death was deemed suspicious.

Osgood apparently had been absent from work at the Mack Molding plant in Arlington for a number of days but had not been reported missing.
