Well, the Red Sox did it again and then did it again.  The Sox won a doubleheader yesterday beating the Twins in the first game 3 to 2 and then beat them up in the second 7 to 1.  The winning streak for Boston is now 9 in a row since losing their opening series against the Orioles at Fenway to start the season.  Starting the 2021 campaign with 3 straight losses certainly didn’t build confidence in Red Sox Nation that 2021 was going to be any different than the last two seasons.  That depression is now history..at least for now.

In the early game Nathan Eovaldi got the win pitching 5 of the 7 innings now played during doubleheaders, giving up only 5 hits and 2 runs.  The Sox scored first putting three on the board in the second inning.  The Twins came back in the 3rd inning countering with 2 runs of their own.  Eovaldi pitched out of the inning leaving Jorge Polanco stranded on base.  Eovaldi got the Sox to the 7th inning when Matt Barns came in to shut down the Twins down with 2 strikeouts to earn a save and give the Sox their 8th consecutive win.

In game two it took the Sox a little while to get the offence clicking.  The Twins went up by 1 in the 1st inning and it wasn’t until the 5th that the Red Sox flood gates opened scoring 6 times to go up 6 to 1.  Eduardo Rodriguez improved his record to 2-0 pitching five innings and just giving up that solo run on 5 hits for the Twins. Alex Verdugo had a big day at the plate delivering 5 hits in the doubleheader…3 in game two with 3 RBI in the second game.

If the Sox can win the getaway game this afternoon, they will inch closer to the team's longest winning streak of 15 games accomplished in April and May of 1946.  The last time the team won 10 in a row was in 2018, the year the Red Sox won the World Series in 5 games against the Dodgers.

Garrett Richards goes against Michael Pineda as the Sox and Twins play the final game of the series at 1:10 this afternoon.  Pre-game starts on New Country 94.7 WNAW at 12:10.   In addition to listening to the game on New Country 94.7, you can also listen in the Pittsfield area to 1420-AM WBEC and in Great Barrington 94.1 WSBS.
