Adams Man Arraigned in Court on Fatal Hit-and-Run, Pleads Not Guilty
David Sookey of Adams was arraigned on Wednesday morning at Northern Berkshire District Court on several charges, according to the Berkshire County District Attorney's Office.
It is alleged that Sookey was the operator of a motor vehicle which struck and killed 85-year-old Theresa Marby Friday morning on Dean St. in Adams. The 61-year-old Adams man had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on one count of leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident and one count of misleading, impeding and obstructing a police investigation.
Sookey was released on $25,000 bail on the condition that he will not operate a motor vehicle while the case is pending. He will be back in court for a pre-trial hearing on March 19.
According to Adams Police Officer Greg Charon (h/t Berkshire Eagle), Sookey did not report Friday's incident and then took "a series of systematic steps" to mislead police during the investigation. He did not speak during the arraignment hearing.
