North Adams Mayor Tom Bernard just announced the appointment of Brent Lefebvre as the new Fire Chief of the city. Lefebvre is currently serving as a lieutenant for the department and is a 12-year veteran of the North Adams Fire Department.

Incoming Chief Lefebvre will be filling the boots of Chief Steven Meranti who retired from the department in January. Chief Meranti severed on the department for 33 years before hanging up the suspenders.

Chief Lefebvre will be officially sworn in on Monday, March 22, with a public ceremony to follow at a later date. Read the complete release from the Mayor’s office on Chief Lefebvre’s appointment below.

MAYOR TOM BERNARD APPOINTS BRENT LEFEBVRE AS NORTH ADAMS FIRE CHIEF
NORTH ADAMS, MA (March 19, 2021) – North Adams Mayor Tom Bernard has appointed Brent Lefebvre, a 12-year veteran of the North Adams Fire Department, as the city’s next Fire Chief.
Lefebvre currently serves as a lieutenant in the North Adams Fire Department. He will succeed Chief Steven Meranti who retired from service with the North Adams Fire Department in January 2021 after more than 33 years of service to the City of North Adams.
“Brent Lefebvre is the right choice to serve as the next Fire Chief for the City of North Adams,” Bernard said. “In speaking with him, the search committee and I found an experienced firefighter with strong community connections who is ready to assume the fire chief’s leadership and command responsibilities, and to follow the collaborative and distinguished example of Chief Meranti.”
Lefebvre holds an associate’s degree in fire science from Mount Wachusett Community College and earned a B.S. in fire science from Ana Maria College in 2020. He served as a firefighter, lieutenant, and captain with the Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department from 2001-2009. He joined the North Adams Fire Department in 2009 and was promoted to lieutenant in 2017.
