Onota Lake will be chemically treated with aquatic herbicides next Monday June 8th according to a press release from the Pittsfield Mayor’s Office.  The herbicides control invasive Eurasian watermilfoil and other nuisance aquatic vegetation according to the release.

The treatment will force the closure of the lake to all water uses, including swimming, fishing and boating on Monday the 8th.  The lake will reopen for activities on Tuesday morning, June 9th.  However, the use of lake water for irrigation such as watering lawns, garden, plants of any kind is prohibited for 5 days after Monday’s treatment.

The press release says that posters warning of the treatment and the restrictions will be posted around the lake prior to the beginning of the treatment.  If you would like additional information you are encouraged to call 499-9344.
