Incredibly tragic news struck the City of Pittsfield over this past weekend.

The Berkshire Eagle reported on Friday that Pittsfield Police Lt. Michael Winston passed away suddenly while on vacation in Fort Myers, FL at the age of 55. A 24 year veteran of the force, Winston was described as a "highly decorated" lieutenant and began his job with the department in June 1994.

Earlier this week, the Pittsfield Police lead Lt. Winston in his End of Watch escort that lead him back to the station for his final call over the radio before bringing him to the funeral home. RightLight Productions captured the impressive escort from a drone shot which you can watch below.

According to a Facebook post from the Pittsfield Police Department, Lt. Winston's funeral is scheduled for Friday at Dwyer Funeral Home, 726 North St. in Pittsfield.

"A large contingent of law enforcement officers, fire personnel, and EMS personnel from throughout Berkshire County and beyond will be in attendance to pay their respects," said the Pittsfield Police. "A marching and vehicle procession will take place to transport and accompany Lt. Winston from the funeral home to St. Charles Church, located at 89 Briggs Ave. in Pittsfield.

"The procession will begin from Dwyer Funeral home at approximately 9:00 AM and proceed north bound on North St. The procession will continue west (left) onto Pontoosuc Ave. and end at St. Charles Church. Anticipated time of arrival at the church is approximately 9:50 AM."

The Pittsfield Police are also letting residents know about that North St. will be closed to thru traffic from Tyler St. to Charles St. during the services, which will be from from the hours of 9-10 Friday morning. Residents are asked to seek alternate routes during these times.
