Pittsfield has announced the street paving project targets for this spring and summer. Over 9-miles of city streets will be resurfaced.  It is estimated that the total number surfaces in feet adds up to 49,278 which amounts to 9.33 miles.

The work is expected to start mid-spring with and be completed by the end of October. A total of 35 streets were named in the resurfacing project. The name and length of each individual street is below.

Because of the drastic weather and temperature changes in New England, potholes are a major problem for east coast cities and towns. Potholes are caused by the expansion and contraction of ground water after the water has entered into the ground under the pavement. When water freezes, it expands causing a failure to the surfaced road.
